52 Stars-and-Stripes jerseys up for grabs in Texas on Saturday

Desoto, Texas (March 17, 2010) – USA Cycling will crown its first national champions of the 2010 season this Saturday at the USA Cycling BMX National Championships in suburban Dallas.

Hosted by the American Bicycle Association (ABA), the national championships is an American-only event but is sandwiched between two world-class UCI races (the ABA Super Nationals), which will feature both U.S. and international competitors.

On Saturday, a total of 52 Stars-and-Stripes jerseys will be awarded to elite and amateur athletes in both the standard 20” and cruiser class divisions at Desoto’s Metroplex BMX track.

The highlight will come from USA Cycling’s four championship categories – elite men, elite women, junior men, and junior women.  Jason Rogers (Mesquite, Texas) will ride to defend his elite men’s title while women’s powerhouse Dominique Daniels (Gilbert, Ariz.) will look to add another Stars-and-Stripes jersey to her collection. Additionally, Corben Sharrah (Tucson, Ariz.), presently the number-one ranked junior rider in the world, will be on hand to shake things up in the junior men’s contest.

Also racing for national titles in Desoto will be the sport’s amateur racers who, in addition to Stars-and-Stripes jerseys, will be competing for a chance to represent the U.S. at the 2010 UCI BMX World Challenge at the end of July in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa.

Racing begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. For more information about the event, including a schedule, please click here.  Stay tuned to www.usacycling.org for complete coverage of the 2010 USA Cycling BMX National Championships, including a race report and photo gallery.
