Four free educational seminars offered at Cyclo-cross Nationals

Colorado Springs, Colo. (November 12, 2009) -- USA Cycling will offer four free educational seminars in conjunction with the USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships in Bend, Ore., December 10-13. The sessions are open to anyone, and USA Cycling certified coaches will earn 0.1 CEU for each one they attend.

Each session will take place at 450 SW Powerhouse Drive, next to REI (the same location as registration and packet pick-up), and each session will last for one hour. The schedule and session descriptions are as follows:
 

Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 7:00 p.m.
Training and Racing Cyclo-cross
Presenter: Matt McNamara

Coach McNamara will discuss goal setting, technique, tactics, equipment and training. For those whose season is ending with the national championships, the presentation can be used to plan for the next ‘cross season. For those who will continue to compete in cyclo-cross, the information could be useful in beating your opponents the next time. The session is appropriate for all levels of racers from juniors to masters. Matt McNamara has been racing all types of bikes since 1986. A voracious consumer of  knowledge, he was part of USA Cycling’s first ever Expert/Level 2 clinic in 1995, inaugural Elite/Level 1 clinic in 2004 and he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado. He has managed teams from amateur to pro and was Director Sportif for Specialized in 1996 and 1997. He brings this combination of experience, education, and commitment to his athletes and teams every day. Currently he owns Sterling Sports Group, a coaching company in Northern California, and runs a small regional cyclo-cross team.

USA Cycling Junior and U23 Cyclo-cross Development

Presenters: Marc Gullickson and Geoff Proctor


Coach Gullickson and Coach Proctor will provide an overview of USA Cycling’s junior and U23 cyclo-cross development programs and opportunities. Both coaches will provide information on European racing opportunities, so bring your questions! If you are a junior or U23 rider, or a parent of one, please attend to ask questions and learn more about opportunities. Marc Gullickson is the Mountain Bike and Cyclo-cross program director for USA Cycling and Geoff Proctor works closely with Marc on USA Cycling programs and also offers many other opportunities for cyclo-cross racers to race in Europe.

Women in Cyclo-cross
Presenter: Kimberly Flynn Fasczewski

Coach Fasczewski will offer tips on getting women involved in cyclo-cross, including her own experience as a cyclo-cross racer who holds specialty clinics for women. Kimberly is co-owner of Vantaggio Fitness and Nutrition in Chattanooga, Tenn.
 

Sunday, December 13, 2009 – 8:30 a.m.
Build on ‘Cross Fitness for the 2010 season
Presenter: Mark Fasczewski
 
Coach Fasczewski will discuss how to take the fitness gains from cyclo-cross training to build a successful 2010 racing season.  In addition to being a great sport, cyclo-cross is also a great way to maintain and develop fitness during the colder months for successful road or mountain bike seasons.  Take the fitness gained and use it as a stepping stone in 2010. Coach Fasczewski will offer training tips for the remainder of the ‘cross season to jump right into successful 2010 racing. Coach Fasczewski is co-owner of Vantaggio Fitness and Nutrition in Chattanooga, Tenn.
