Masters Track Nationals conclude with 13 more titles awarded
Colorado Springs, Colo. (August 21, 2009) – The 2009 USA Cycling Masters Track National Championships are officially in the books as 13 final national titles were awarded in the team sprint, team time trials, and Madison events.
The Eddie Boyz squad won the first event of the final session with John McQuaide (San Diego, Calif.), Antony Galvan (Los Angeles, Calif.), and Tc Valentine (Irvine, Calif.) beating out the Northbrook Velodrome team of Jason Garner (Glenview, ill.), Jeffrey Whiteman (Chicago, Ill.), and Kevin Perez (Barrington, ill.) for the win in the men’s 30+ team sprint.
In the men’s 40+ team sprint contest, the Team 216 trio of Matthew Diefenbach (Pottstown, Pa.), Stephen Hill (Winston, Ga.), and Li Nelson (Hillsdale, Ga.) bested the Nitroshot Cycling squad of Fransisco Aleman (Miami, Fla.), Todd Hayes (Ann Arbor, Mich.), and Roger Hernandez (Miami, Fla.) to ride their way into the Stars-and-Stripes jerseys.
The Bikeline Sprint squad of Aron Seiken (Fort Worth, Texas), Scott Butler (Nazareth, Pa.), and Bill Ziegler (Oceanside, Calif.) won the national title in the men’s 50+ team sprint. The trio bested the silver medal Hammer Racing squad of Ken Rodriguez (Denver, Colo.), Richard Voss (Littleton, Colo.), and James Host (Plainfield, ill.).
In the men’s 60+ team sprint contest, the Midwest Masters trio of Reid Schwartz (Chicago, Ill.), Mark Rodamaker (Los Altos, Calif.), and Ronald Hargrave (Colorado Springs, Colo.) claimed the win over the Over The Line’s riders Terry Dutton (La Jolla, Calif.), Randy Fried (San Diego, Calif.), and Leo Menestrina
The first women’s contest of the day saw the Hammer/Land Rover duo of Heather Vanvalkenburg (Vancouver, Wash.) and Kimberly Nuffer (Denver, Colo.) beat out Team Hammer’s Shane Ellis (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) and CJ Boyenger (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) for the national title in the women’s 30+ team sprint.
In the women’s 45+ event, Team 231’s Annabell Holland (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Lorraine Jarvis (San Anselmo, Calif.) beat out the NOW MS duo of Louise Keoghan (Santa Monica, Calif.) and Lauren Jacobsen (Santa Monica, Calif.).
Team 105 won the first team time trial on Sunday. The foursome of Brian Peterson (Redwood City, Calif.), Tom Fahey (Lodi, Calif.), Michael Hutchinson (San Jose, Calif.), and Andrew Nevitt (Saratoga, Calif.) covered the four kilometers with a time of 4:38.088 to best Clean Currents riders Joshua Frick (Bethesda, Md.), Kenneth Young (Woodbridge, Va.), Jason Meidhof (Bethesda, Md.), and Mark Sommers (Washington DC)
The final two events of the national championships were the men’s 30+ and 45+ Madisons. In the 30+ event, the duo of Keith Harper (Boulder, Colo.) and Clark Sheehan (Boulder, Colo.) rode into the Stars-and-Stripes jerseys while the 45+ contest saw Johnny Walsh (Playa del Rey, Calif.) and Keith Ketterer (Foxboro, Mass.)take top honors.
