Nine more masters slip into Stars-and-Stripes jerseys on Saturday

Colorado Springs, Colo. (August 21, 2009)  The penultimate day of Masters Track Nationals saw nine more national champs crowned at the 7-Eleven Velodrome. Best All Around Riders were also named in each age category on Saturday as the last of the individual events were contested.  

 
Ryan McKinney (Reston, Va.) lapped the men’s 30-34 field once and accumulated 68 points to ride his way into a Stars-and-Stripes jersey. Daniel Lionberg (Fort Collins, Colo.) scored 29 points for the silver medal while Randy McLain (Boulder, Colo./Hammer Racing Team) scored 19 for the bronze. Kenneth Young (Woodbridge, Va.) and Jeffrey Whiteman (Chicago, Ill.) earned 19 and 16 points respectively to round out the podium in fourth and fifth.
 
Next up was the men 50-54 points race. Keith Ketterer (Camarillo, Calif.) amassed 21 points to beat out Stanley Terusaki (Livermore, Calif.) who earned 17 points. Lawrence Nolan (Fremont, Calif./Team Specialized Racing) and Christopher Regan (Washington DC) rode to the third and fourth place spots while Mark Sommers (Washington DC) grabbed the final podium step.

In the men’s 60-64 competition, Lawrence Bosch (Fort Collins, Colo./Vic’s Espresso) scored 18 points to claim the gold medal ahead of second-place finisher Mark Rodamaker (Los Altos, Calif./Webcor/Alto Velo) who earned 14. Stephen Whitsitt and Patrick Whelan rode to the third- and fourth-place finishes while Fran Rudy (Ooltewah, Tenn./Krystal Cycling Team) rounded out the podium.
 

Andrew Buck (Dreshner, Pa./Bike Line/LWA) and Barry Messmer (Red Feather Lakes, Colo./Vic’s Espresso) lapped the field in the men’s 55-59 contest to score 36 and 32 points respectively for the gold and silver medals. Chip Berezny (Easton, Pa./Bike Line/LWA) rode the bronze medal with 16 points while Steven Worley (Boulder, Colo./Vic’s Espresso) and Butch Stinton were fourth and fifth.

 

Two men also lapped the field in the men’s 35-39 points race. Kevin Kremke (Austin, Texas/Bike Barn Texas) and Jason Meidhof (Bethesda, Md./Clean Currents) got two laps on the rest of the racers with Kremke earning 54 points for the national title and Meidhof getting 47 points for the silver medal. Brian Peterson (Redwood City, Calif./Webcor/Alto Velo) got the bronze medal while John Allen (Long Beach, Calif./Team Velocity) and Dave McIntosh (Colorado Springs, Colo./Spike Shooter) claimed the final two spots on the podium.

 

In the men’s 45-49 sprint, Matthew Diefenbach beat out John Walsh (El Segundo, Calif./Amgen/Giant Masters) in the final to grab the Stars-and-Stripes jersey. Greg Pshnychniak (Ramona, Calif./Ouch) bested Curtis Tolson (Louisville, Ken./Texas Roadhouse) in the bronze medal round while Eric Waterman won the race for fifth.

 

Among the men 40-44, Stephen Hill (Winston, Ga./LTO Velo) proved to be the fastest sprinter as he bested Li Nelson (Hillsdale, NJ/Sommersville Sports) in the final for the gold medal. James Tainter (Minneapolis, Minn./Silver Cycling) beat Roger Hernandez (Miami, Fla./Nitroshot Cycling) to win the bronze medal round while Ted Schmid (St. Cloud, Minn.) won the race for fifth.

 

In the women’s 45-49 sprint, Annabell Holland (Santa Clar, Calif./SJBC/SugarCRM) bested CJ Boyenger (Ladera Ranch, Calif./Team Hammer Nutrition) in the final to slip into a Stars-and-Stripes jersey while Renee Schroeder (Nederland, Colo./Rocky Mounts) beat Christi Chenowth (Dallas, Texas) in the bronze medal round and Jane Chateaubriand (Seattle, Wash./Starbucks) placed fifth.

 

Among women 40-44, Kimberly Nuffer (Denver, Colo./Hammer Racing Team) proved to be the fastest, winning the gold medal round against Tracey Ford (San Jose, Calif./Proman Hit Squad). Leslie Meadows (Asheville, N.C./Team Velosports)won the bronze medal race against Carol Kauder (Boulder, Colo./Title Nine) while Stephanie Hsieh (Oakland, Calif./San Jose BC) rounded out the podium in fifth.
