Louisville, Ky. (June 30, 2008)—After opening day of the 2008 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships crowned 30 national champions on Monday in the time trial, a much shorter day Tuesday saw four women’s categories contest the road race.

The women’s 30-34 age group kicked the day off with a 45-mile contest in Louisville’s Cherokee Park as half of Monday’s women’s 70+ tandem time trial national championship pair, AnnaJean Dallaire (Louisville, Ky.) added a solo national title to her resume. Dallaire outsprinted five other riders in the lead group to cross the line with a winning mark of 2 hours, 15 minutes and 19 seconds.

In a more dominating performance, Monday’s 35-39 time trial champion, Laura Igoe (Lockport, N.Y.), added a road race title to her list of accomplishments this week when she finished more than seven minutes ahead of her nearest competitor, completing the 45-mile course in 2:02:28.

With a Stars-and-Stripes jersey already to her credit in the women’s 90+ tandem time trial race on Monday, Sonia Ross (Santa Barbara, Calif.) captured her second national title of the week with a win in the women’s 40-44 race, clocking a winning time of 1:34:22 over the 35 mile race. Ross came to the line alongside a group of seven, but held them all off for the win.

In Tuesday’s final race, Tracy Tolson (Louisville, Ky.) won the women’s 45-49 title, outsprinting seven others in the 35-mile race and finishing in a time of 1:46:05.

The 2008 USA Cycling Masters Road National Championships continue on Wednesday with nine more road races including the men’s 30-34, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70+ races and the women’s 50-54, 55-59 and 60+ races.
