36 states represented at Mammoth Mountain

October 1, 2004 (Colorado Springs, Colo.) -- The success of the first one-day USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships can be measured by the thirty-six states from across the country that were represented at Mammoth Mountain last week.

Riders made their way to California from as far away as New Hampshire and Florida. The State Team Competition Cup was designed to reward riders from the state with top performances. California took the prize this year, earning a nameplate on the State Team Competition Cup trophy that will remain on display at the USA Cycling offices in Colorado Springs.

Points were awarded to the top placing person from each state in each class and category for the amateur events. The top 25 scorers from each state were then used to determine the points for that event. The top five states at the end of the weekend were as follows:

California 2000
Colorado 1992
Utah 1958
Arizona 1947
Nevada 1896
