Neben wins Pan Am gold in the time trial in Argentina
Amber Neben (Irvine, Calif./Specialized-lululemon) claimed the gold medal in the women’s time trial today at the Pan American Road and Track Championships Mar Del Plata, Argentina.
Neben posted the winning time of 26:60.096 over the out-and-back course, beating out silver medalist Rhae Shaw of Canada who posted a time of 27:47.068. Collecting the bronze medal was Brazilian rider Clemilda Silva with a time of 27:67.000.
Adding to the U.S. medal count, Nate Brown (Covington, Tenn./Trek-Livestrong) and Lawson Craddock (Houston, Texas/Trek-Livestrong)were second and third in the U23 men's time trial contest, also on Friday.
Competition in Argentina will close out on Sunday with the road races where Neben will lead a U.S. women’s squad that also includes Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./Exergy TWENTY 12), Shelley Olds (Gilroy, Calif./AA Drink), and Beth Newell (Oakland, Calif./Now Cycling – NOW and Novartis for MS).
Also on Sunday is the men’s road race where a young squad of Craddock, Brown, Ty Magner (Athens, Ga./TT1), Rob Bush (Louisville, Ky./Chipotle Development Team), and Matthew Lipscomb (Decatur, Ga./Hincapie Development Team) will toe the line for the U.S.
