NCC: Clarke regains lead as Allar inches closer to clinching

Print With only four events remaining on the USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC), competition is rising throughout the peloton. A stellar evening of racing at the Andersen Banducci Twilight Criterium in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday brought Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./CARE4CYCLING powered by Solomon Corp) closer to clinching the NCC women's standings.

Hilton Clarke (AUS/UnitedHealthcare) won the men's race and surged ahead of Carlos Alzate Escobar (COL/UnitedHealthcare) in the NCC men's standings. Clarke now leads Escobar by 77 points. Their teammate, Karl Menzies (AUS/UnitedHealthcare) has moved into third place, overtaking Luke Keough (Sandwich, Mass./UnitedHealthcare). Keough trails Menzies by six points while holding a 111-point cushion on fifth-place rider Shane Kline (Bally, Pa./Team SmartStop-Mountain Khakis), who sits in fifth place with 609 points.
Kimberley Wells (AUS/Fearless Femme p/b Pure Energy Energy Cycling Vie13) won the women's race and bolted into fourth place of the NCC women's standings with 435 points. Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./CARE4CYCLING powered by Solomon Corp), who finished second in the women's race, remains the standings leader with 1,140 points, 468 points ahead of Laura van Gilder (Cresco, Pa./Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers), who placed fifth on Saturday to move into second place. Theresa Cliff-Ryan (Cedar Springs, Mich./Fearless Femme p/b Pure Energy Cycling Vie13) slipped into third place with 590 points, 82 points behind van Gilder and 155 points ahead of Wells. Samantha Schneider (Milwaukee, Wis./Team TIBCO-To the Top) moved back into the top five of the NCC women's standings with 433 points, only two points behind Wells.
The top four teams of the NCC men's team standings remain the same. UnitedHealthcare Pro Cycling, which clinched the top spot, leads with 3,889 points while Team SmartStop-Mountain Khakis sits in second place with 1,614 points. Jamis Hagens Berman remains in third place with 646 points while Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies is in fourth place with 454 points. CashCall Mortgage holds fifth place with 354 points.
