NCC: Alzate and Rivera maintain NCC leads after Charlotte-Belmont Omnium

Print The USA Cycling National Criterium Calendar (NCC) continued this weekend with the Charlotte-Belmont Omnium in North Carolina. The weekend of racing resulted in overall omnium winners which were crowned after the Novant Health Invitational Criterium on Saturday and the Belmont Criterium on Sunday.
NCC points were awarded based on omnium places and additional points were awarded to the top three finishers in each men's and women's criterium.
MEN
Carlos Alzate (COL/UnitedHealthcare) strengthened his early lead in the men's NCC standings when he claimed both criterium victories and the men's omnium. Amassing 150 points over the two days, the Colombian racer upped his NCC point tally from 100 to 250. Isaac Howe (Winooski, Vt./Champion System-Stans NoTubes) placed fifth in the omnium after riding to tenth- and 11th-place finishes over the two days. His strong omnium placing moved him from fourth in the NCC standings to second with 115 points, 135 points behind Alzate. Hilton Clarke (AUS/UnitedHealthcare) entered the NCC top five this weekend, moving his way into third place after placing fourth on Saturday, seventh on Sunday, and second in the omnium. Clarke holds 112 points, just three points out of second place. Rounding out the top five in the men's NCC standings are Alder Martz (Greenville, S.C./Hincapie Sportswear Development Team) with 99 points and Frank Travieso (Athens, Ga./The 706 Project) with 96 points.
WOMEN
In the women's NCC standings, Coryn Rivera (Tustin, Calif./UnitedHealthcare) also maintained her lead by finishing third on Saturday, second on Sunday, and second in the women's omnium. Her solid race efforts garnered an additional 105 points to bring
her grand total so far to 205. Staying in second in the NCC standings is Erica Allar (Tucson, Ariz./Colavita Racing, Inc.) who took her 75 points from a week ago up to 145 points after placing second on Saturday, sixth on Sunday, and fifth in the women's omnium. Alison Powers (Pinecliffe, Colo./UnitedHealthcare) moved into the top five by winning Sunday's criterium as well as the women's omnium. She sits in third with 135 points. Hannah Barnes (GBR/UnitedHEalthcare) won Saturday's criterium. Fourth and fifth places in the NCC are still occupied by Laura Van Gilder (Cresco, Pa./Van Dessel Factory Team p/b Mellow Mushroom) with 132 points and Sarah Fader (Boulder, Colo./Mellow Mushroom) with 74 points.
TEAMS
UnitedHealthcare maintained its number one spot in the men's team standings and also moved from second to first in the women's team standings. The team holds 403 points on both the men's and women's side. SmartStop Pro Cycling is now ranked second with 140 points amongst men's teams while Colavita-Fine Cooking moved from the top spot into second with 251 points in the women's team standings.
