McConneloug finishes 23rd at Marathon World Championships

  
  


The first of the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Championships took place on June 29 with the Marathon, in Brixental, Austria. Held in the mountainous Tirol region near Kitzbuhel, during the KitzAlpBike Festival, the course took the riders on a series of loops radiating out from Kirchberg, with the men covering 95 kilometers and the women traversing 85 kilometers.

Two-time Olympian Mary McConneloug (Chilmark, Mass./ Kenda-Seven-Stan’s No Tubes) finished 23rd in the elite women's race. The 42-year-old McConneloug, winner of the 2013 Pan American Continental Mountain Bike Championships in Tucuman, Argentina, completed the women's course in Austria in 5:15:45.
 
McConneloug's husband, Michael Broderick (Chilmark, Mass./ Kenda-Seven-Stan’s No Tubes), placed 70th in the men's elite race, crossing the line in 5:20:16.
 
Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjaa (NOR) won her fifth Marathon world title in the women's race in a time of 4:35:30, while Christoph Sauser (SUI) took his third title in the men's competition with a winning time of 4:30:13.
