Personal

Madalyn Godby grew up in bike-friendly Colorado, in a family that raced bikes, so her dabbling in bike racing seemed completely normal as a young kid. One snag in the plan, she didn't enjoy it immediately, so she stopped racing. Godby remained active, competing in basketball, track and field, volleyball and lacrosse.

At 16 years of age in 2008, Godby decided to give racing a another shot and ended up returning as a full-time bike racer. She quickly posted strong results claiming a silver and three bronze medals at the 2009 USA Cycling Junior Track National Championships in Carson, Calif. The following year, Godby placed 10th in the Sprint at the 2010 UCI Junior Track World Championships in Montichiari, Italy.

Godby reached a career high when she teamed up with Liz Reap Carlson to register a 34.788, an American record, at the 2011 Pan American Games.

Godby credits her family as being supportive of her racing. She also acknowledges the contributions from Missy Thompson and Cari Higgins who helped her with advice on track racing and training support.

Godby's team, enCompass Racing, works with World Bicycle Relief and each person on the team donates at least one bike through race earnings as part of a grassroots program. In 2011, the three-member team donated a combined total of nine bikes. Godby also volunteers some of her free time at Growing Gardens of Boulder County.

Godby also enjoys reading various types of books, adventurous outdoor activities and spending time with her friends.
