Katie Compton strikes gold in round 2 of the Cyclo-cross World Cup in Tabor

Compton went off the front in the third lap and held off an attack by Nikki Harris (GBR) and Pavla Havilkova (CZE) to cross the finish line in first, improving on her silver medal performance from the world cup opener in Valkenburg last weekend. Harris and Havilkova settled for second and third.
With Valkenburg winner Marianne Vos not competing on Saturday, Compton's win launched her to top of the world cup standings.
In addition to Compton, the USA had three more riders in the top 15 of the elite women's race. Meredith Miller (Boulder, Colo./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) placed an impressive sixth, just 47 seconds off of Compton's winning time. Kaitlin Antonneau (Racine, Wis./Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com), who was 13th in the Valkenburg opener, finished in just over a minute after Compton in ninth while Arley Kemmerer (Saylorsburg, Pa./C3-Twenty20 Cycling) was 2:39 down in 15th.

In his first season in the U23 ranks, Logan Owen (Bremerton, Wash./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) placed 21st in the U23 men's race (the same placing from Valkenburg) as the top American.
Owen was two minutes and 34 seconds off the winning pace of Dutchman Mathiew Van der Poel while Gianna Vermeersch (BEL) and Wout Van Aert (BEL) were second and third.
Americans Curtis White (Delanson, N.Y./Cannondale-Cyclocrossworld.com) and Tobin Ortenblad (Santa Cruz, Calif./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) finished 31st and 36th respectively.
Juniors Men
In the junior men's race, Adam Toupalik (CZE), Eli Iserbyt (BEL) and Joris Nieuwenhuis (NED) were the top three finishers while American Maxx Chance (Boulder, Colo./Clif Bar Development Cyclocross Team) was 36th, four minutes and 2 seconds off of Toupalik's winning pace.
Elite Men
In the elite men's race, reigning U.S. national champion Jonathan Page (Northfield, N.H./Fuji-Spy-Competitive Cyclist) was the sole American, finishing in 31st place. He completed the course four minutes and six seconds behind winner Lars Van der Haar (NED). Philipp Walsleban (GER) and Kevin Pauwels (BEL) collected silver and bronze.
The seven-race Cyclo-cross World Cup series will take a month off before resuming with stop #3 in Koksijde, Belgium on Nov. 23.
