Bishop's wife, Erin, calls him "the weather man" because he often studies the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration web page.
Bishop nearly went to art school, but decided to pursue professional bike racing instead.
Bishop considers himself among "the lucky kids" in his neighborhood to have found cycling instead of crime.

Personal

Jeremiah Bishop caught the bike racing bug as he was training to try out for the high school football team. Bishop incorporated mountain biking into his regimen and found it to be far more enjoyable, so he swapped out the facemask for sunglasses and has been riding mountain trails ever since.

The two-time USA Cycling mountain bike national champion has represented the United States of American more than 15 times, including placing fourth in the mountain bike cross-country race at the Olympic Test Event in Great Britain in August 2011. He also garnered the gold medal in the mountain bike cross-country contest at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. In 2011, Bishop returned to the Pan American Games and found the podium again, earning a bronze medal.

Bishop has enjoyed success in national championships also. He won the mountain bike cross-country and the marathon national titles in 2008. He's also earned three silver medals in mountain bike national championships, including the 2006 and 2007 cross-country competitions as well as the 2009 marathon race.

Bishop founded the Alpine Loop Gran Fondo to raise money for the Prostate Cancer Awareness Foundation as well as bike lanes in his hometown of Harrisonburg, Va. Additionally, Bishop helped raise over $10,000 for World Bicycle Relief. He assisted in fundraising and volunteered for the Shenandoah Bicycle Coalition. He also is a member and has contributed to the International Mountain Bike Association as well as serving as an athlete ambassador for the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
