(Sept. 24, 2017) – Massive crowds lined the streets of Bergen Sunday to cheer on the men’s road race competitors as the 2017 UCI Road World Championships came to a rousing close in Norway. An estimated 100,000 people gathered in downtown for a festive atmosphere to cap the weeklong event.

Alex Howes (Boulder, Colo./Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling) was the top American on Sunday, finishing in a large group, 2:32 back in 53rd place. Peter Sagan won his third world championship title in a sprint finish, covering the 267.5-kilometer course in 6:28:11. He outsprinted hometown favorite Alexander Kristoff (NOR) and Michael Matthews (AUS).

In addition to Howes, other U.S. finishers were Keil Reijnen (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Trek-Segafredo) in 109th and Joey Rosskopf (Decatur, Ga./BMC Racing Team) in 124th. Also competing for Team USA were Nate Brown (Covington, Tenn./Cannondale-Drapac Pro Cycling), Tejay Van Garderen (Aspen, Colo./BMC Racing Team) and Alexey Vermeulen (Pinckney, Mich./Team LottoNL-Jumbo) who made some noise in an early breakaway.

The 2017 Road World Championships are now in the history books.
