Colorado Springs, Colo. (September 14, 2017) – USA Cycling announced today that Greg Henderson will join the Elite Athletics department as Endurance Performance Director.

“We have been aggressively pursuing the world’s best leaders and specialists and we are excited to announce another strong addition to our team,” said CEO Derek Bouchard-Hall. “Greg is widely regarded for his integrity and leadership, which combined with his deep understanding of what it takes to succeed at the highest level, will make him a powerful asset to our organization.”

Scott Schnitzspahn, USA Cycling’s new Vice President of Elite Athletics, shared his excitement regarding the new hire and the direction his team is headed, “I joined USA Cycling in part to increase athlete support and Greg is a critical addition as we work to build a world-class high performance environment for our outstanding American athletes.”

Performance Directors are tasked with ensuring that the needs of America’s top cyclists are fully met. They will work directly with athletes on developing objectives, monitoring progress, optimizing training and competition schedules, and fully leveraging all available resources from USA Cycling, the U.S. Olympic Committee, and USA Cycling technical partners – including world class coaching, state of the art equipment, wind tunnel testing, nutrition guidance, sports psychology, and more. The role will report to Jim Miller, USA Cycling’s Vice President of High Performance.

Henderson brings a wealth of cycling experience to USA Cycling. He was a professional cyclist for 20 years finishing 11 grand tours and competing in five Olympic Games. A native of New Zealand, Henderson was successful on both the road and track, winning 17 National Championships, a Commonwealth Games gold medal, and a World Championship. Henderson holds a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Otago, New Zealand and has been coaching athletes since 2014.

“I am thrilled to join USA Cycling,” commented Henderson. “I spent much of my career riding in support of teammates and I always took great pride and satisfaction in that role. I now look forward to using my experience to support America’s top cyclists as we work to achieve their best.”
