“I’ve been here for a week now since I also raced the time trial, so I had a few opportunities to check out the course and knew today’s race was going to be tough, especially being the only U.S. rider,” said Farina who finished less than a second off the podium in Sunday’s (Oct. 16) time trial. “While today’s race didn’t present a good breakaway opportunity for me at the end, my legs really felt good, and I’m proud that I had the opportunity to represent USA Cycling and Team USA at the Pan American Games. It’s truly an honor.”

Cuba swept the road race podium with Arlenis Sierra crossing the line first in 2:18:10 and Yumari Gonzalez and Yudelmis Dominguez picking up silver and bronze in a field sprint.

“I’ve been racing since February, mostly in the U.S. and a short stint in Europe before World Championships, which is the longest season I’ve ever had,” said Farina. “Now it’s time for me to rest, relax and get back to work at my bike shop ‘Uptown Cycles’ in Charlotte, N.C.”
