Devo Wrap: Stevens, Daniel land on podiums in European races

The riders in the USA Cycling National Development Program (NDP) nailed down a pair of podium appearances in the last week. One of the riders in the women's road contingent placed third in the Route de France while one of the U23 riders finished second at a prestigious one-day race in Germany.

Evelyn Stevens (Dennis, Mass./Specialized-lululemon) used a late surge during the climb on the final stage to move into third place in the general classification following the seventh and final stage of Route de France.

Stevens, who was in fourth place in the general classification since the prologue, moved into third place overall after her well-timed attack. Linda Villumsen (NZL) topped the field, finishing the race in 21:50:23. Emma Johansson (SWE) finished second, 5:52 behind the winner. Stevens finished third, only five seconds behind Johansson.

Andrea Dvorak (Crozet, Va./Exergy TWENTY16) finished seven minutes behind the leader. Kristin McGrath (Boise, Idaho/Exergy TWENTY16) placed 26th, 10:05 back. Janel Holcomb (San Diego, Calif./Team Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies) finished 14:03 behind Villumsen while Ally Stacher (Asheville, N.C./Specialized-lululemon) also finished the contest.

Jacquelyn Crowell (Maitland, Fla./Exergy TWENTY16) also contested the race.

Greg Daniel (Englewood, Colo./Bontrager Cycling Team) continued his stellar riding, placing second in the 61st Large Silver Price Pils, Cycling Classic of the BDR, a one-day race in Germany on Aug. 11.

Daniel finished second to Jan-Niklas Droste (GER), who completed the 10-lap, 200-kilometer race in 4:22:23.

Sam Bassetti (San Geronimo, Calif./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) also recorded a top-10 finish, placing eighth. Tyler Williams (Shafter, Calif./BMC Development Team) placed 11th while Eamon Lucas (Pacific Grove, Calif./California Giant Berry Farms-Specialized) was 13th.
