Devo Wrap: Putt & Jones in white

Riders of various age groups from USA Cycling's National Development Program are scattered throughout the globe contesting all types of races, from major stage races to local kermessesas as they gain valuable experience and hone their skills. Whether it be in the Tour Cycliste International de la Guadeloupe in France or the U23 Tour de la Province de Namur in Belgium or local kermesses in Belgium, riders from USA Cycling's National Development Program are posting stellar results.

U23

Two high-powered U23 squads are in action for USA Cycling in Europe. Tanner Putt (Roswell, Ga./Team Type 1 Development) and company hold the white ‘Best Young Rider’ jersey and are tied for the yellow at the Tour of Namur while Carter Jones (Boulder, Colo./Trek Livestrong U23) and squad are in white just down the road in France’s Tour de la Guadeloupe.

In the afternoon session of the second stage, Carter Jones (Boulder, Colo./Trek Livestrong U23) finished third while Ryan Eastman (Petaluma, Calif./Trek Livestrong U23) placed fifth in that stage. JUNIORS

A group of USA Cycling Junior 17-18 riders have been preparing for Junior Track World Championships from Aug. 17-21, in Moscow, Russia at the steeply-banked Wielercentrum Eddy Merckx, in Ghent, Belgium. The riders have worked on a series of speed runs, with both training equipment and full race gear to improve the timing of team pursuit exchanges at high speed. Mathew Lipscomb (Decatur, Ga./Hincapie Development Team) and Gregory Daniel (Englewood, Colo./Chipotle Development Team) have put in extra work in preparation for the individual pursuit and omnium events.

Daniel and Paul Lynch (Colchester, Conn./Hot Tubes Development Cycling) got in some cross-training and showed their prowess on the road, scoring first and second place results at a kermesse in Izegem, Belgium, on Sunday. Daniel was off the front for the majority of the road race, first with a local racer, then with Lynch. The duo pushed through strong winds and rain to win the race in their adopted hometown of Izegem, Belgium by over a minute. Thomas Wrona (Pinehurst, N.C./Hot Tubes Development Cycling Team) and Lipscomb both finished safely in the top 20.
