Mont-Sainte-Anne, Cananda (August 10, 2013) — American juniors shined in the cross-country races today at the 2013 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada. Kate Courtney (Kentfield, Calif./Whole Athletes) topped the women’s juniors field, while Lucas Newcomb (Nicasio, Calif./Whole Athlete-Specialized) placed second in the men’s juniors competition.

U.S. riders also notched several top ten finishes in the only mountain bike world cup in North America this season. Neilson Powless (Roseville, Calif./Folsom Bike-VW-Raley's) just missed out on joining Newcomb on the podium in the men’s juniors race by only a second, placing fourth. Luke Vrouwenvelder (Chapel Hill, N.C./Cycle Youth) finished behind Powless in fifth. In the women’s juniors race, Kaylee Blevins (Durango, Colo./Durango Devo) crossed the line in sixth, 3:51 behind Courtney.

In the U23 races, Shayna Powless (Roseville, Calif./BMC Mountain Bike Development Team USA) finished eighth in the women’s contest, while Kerry Werner (Banner Elk, N.C./BMC U23 Development Team) took ninth on the men’s side.

Reigning women’s elite cross-country national champion Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt./Specialized Factory Racing) took fifth in the elite women’s race, less than a minute off of the podium. Mary McConneloug (Chilmark, Mass./Kenda-Seven-Stan’s No Tubes) placed 12th in the same race, and Georgia Gould (Fort Collins, Colo./Luna Pro Team) took 15th. In the elite men’s event, Stephen Ettinger (Bozeman, Mont./BMC Mountain Bike Team) was the top American at 20th place.
