Compton takes third world cup victory in Roubaix on Saturday

  
  


Roubaix, France (December 2, 2012) – Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./Trek Cyclocross) grabbed her third UCI Cyclo-cross World Cup victory of the season on Sunday with a last minute victory over Sanne Van Paassen (NED).

After riding in second for the entire contest, the American strongwoman overtook the number one spot from Van Paassen in the final lap and completed the course in 42:24 for the win. She crossed the finish line just eight seconds ahead of Van Paassen and 28 seconds ahead of bronze medalist Jasmin Achermann (SWI). Compton’s victory today is in addition to her world cup wins in Koksijde, Belgium last month and Plzen, Czech Republic in October.  At the midpoint in the season, Compton has now accumulated 230 points to lead Van Paassen and Nikki Harris (GBR) in the overall world cup standings by 50 and 40 points respectively.
 
Also competing for the U.S. in the women’s race on Saturday was Amy Dombroski (Boulder, Colo./Young Telenet-Fidea Cycling Team), who finished in 11th place, one minute and 28 seconds off the pace set at the front.
 
In the elite men’s race, Jeremy Powers (Easthampton, Mass./Team Rapha-FOCUS) and Jonathan Page (Northfield, N.H./Planet Bike) represented the USA and rode to 22nd- and 30th- places respectively.  The podium was swept by three Belgian riders with Sven Nys in first, Kevin Pauwels in second, and Niels Albert in third.
 
Elite world cup action will continue at round five in Namur, Belgium on Dec. 23.
