USA Cycling sent a group of twelve to Beijing for the third round of the UCI Track World Cup this weekend. Bobby Lea (Mertztown, Pa./Pure Energy Cycling-ProAirHFA) posted the best performance for the U.S. contingent with seventh-place overall in the men’s omnium.
 
“Bobby goal was to earn valuable points toward Olympic Qualifying in the Omnium,” explained USA Cycling’s Director of Endurance Programs Benjamin Sharp. “The goal was met.”
 
Lea rode three personal best times in the timed events and also had good points and scratch races. On Friday, he placed second in the flying lap, tenth in the points race, and 15th in the elimination. Saturday saw him race to seventh in the individual pursuit, tenth in the scratch race, and 11th in the kilometer time trial before accumulating a total of 55 points for seventh place overall.
 
Friday saw lots of team action withZack Noonan (Kutztown, Pa./FCS-Metro Volkswagon), Matthew Lipscomb (Decatur, Ga./Fulton Flyers), Ian Moir (Long Beach, Calif./Yahoo Cycling Team), and Adam Leibovitz (Indianapolis, Ind.) combining forces to place 13th in the men’s team pursuit.
 
“The Team Pursuit men rode to their current potential, posting a 4:15 in a solid, technically sound ride,” Sharp said.
 
Additionally on Friday, Kevin Mansker (Long Beach, Calif./Project London 2012), Dean Tracy (Portland, Ore./Rubicon Cycling), and Jimmy Watkins (Bakersfield, Calif./Project London 2012) teamed up for tenth place in the men’s team sprint while Liz Carlson (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Black Dog Pro Cycling Team)  and Tela Crane (Sammamish, Wash./Lake Washington Velo/Broadmark Capital) rode to 14th in the women’s team sprint. Elizabeth Reap Carlson (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Black Dog Pro Cycling Team) posted the 12th fastest time in the women’s 500-meter time trial.
 
On Saturday,Adam Leibovitz (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted a strong tenth place ride in the men’s individual pursuit while Giddeon Massie (Cypress, Calif./Bike Religion) was 13th in the keirin.  Jennifer Valente (San Diego, Calif./Exergy TWENTY 12) and Tela Crane (Sammamish, Wash./Lake Washington Velo/Broadmark Capital) were 28th and 34th respectively in the women’s sprint.
 
On Sunday, competition closed out with Kevin Mansker and Jimmy Watkins placing 14th and 20th in the men’s sprint while Jennifer Valente and Tela Crane were 19th and 25th in the women’s keirin.
