BMX and MTB World Cup series move to round three this weekend

Dozens of Americans have travelled to Papendal, Netherlands and Nove Mesto Na Morave, Czech Republic to contest these two important, potential Olympic qualification events, May 11 - 13.
BMX SX World Cup #3 – Papendal, Netherlands
Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX), winner of the opening round of the BMX Supercross World Cup in Chula Vista, California, as well as the second round in Norway will lead the nine-person USA Cycling funded team into the Dutch National Sports Center in Papendal. USA Cycling BMX National Champion and Randaberg bronze medalist Alise Post (St. Cloud, Minn.) will help lead a U.S. ladies squad that boasts the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-place women in the UCI SX BMX World Cup standings. In all, dozens of Americans will compete for vital Olympic qualifying points on the Olympic-replica track against over 170 riders from 26 nations, just 78 days out from the Olympic Games.
The Time Trials and qualifications will be held on Saturday, while the Supercross main event will culminate on Sunday. After this stop the UCI BMX Nation’s ranking for the Olympic Games will be established, determining the maximum amount of qualified starts spots for the Games per country. The U.S. is currently ranked second in both men’s and women’s BMX and is poised to take the maximum of three men and two women to the Olympic Games.

(Photo: Rob Jones-CanadianCyclist.com)More than two dozen Americans are set to line up for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup's third cross-country round in Nove Mesto Na Morave, Czech Republic, including round one and two’s top finishers Sam Schultz (Missoula, Mont. /Subaru-Trek), Stephen Ettinger (Cashmere, Wash. /BMC Mountain Bike Racing Team) Lea Davison (Jericho, Vt. /Specialized Racing) and Georgia Gould (Fort Collins, Colo. /Luna Pro Team). Reigning USA Cycling National Champion Todd Wells (Durango, Colo./Specialized) is also on the start list for the elite men's event.
Held in the scenic Vysocina region southeast of Prague and voted top cross-country event of 2011 by the riders, teams and press, Nove Mesto features a course with long climbs, technical descents and a BMX-style technical section at the far end of the course. The elite men's and women's cross-country races will wrap-up a weekend of junior, U23 and cross-country eliminator racing on Sunday in front of thousands of spectators who will watch the start/finish in the superb stadium of the Czech Nordic and Biathlon Center.
