Americans secure 25 medals at UCI Masters Track Worlds

Cyclists from all over the globe found themselves at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester, Great Britain from Oct. 7-14 for the 2012 UCI Masters Track World Championships.

Overall, the United States of America collected 25 medals, including 11 gold medals. America’s 25 medals finished second to Great Britain among all of the countries competing in the event.

The Americans had two riders finish with four medals. Annette Williams (Kenmore, Wash./Slalom Consulting Racing) collected four medals, including a pair of gold medals. Williams collected her first medal on the second day when she placed second in the women’s 45-54 time trial. She added her first gold medal of the week when she topped the women’s 50-and-over field in the individual pursuit before topping that field in the points race. She also won a silver medal in the women’s 45-and-over scratch race. Leo Menestrina (San Jose, Calif./Webcor-Alto Velo Racing Club) also recorded four medals, including a pair of golds and a pair of silvers. Menestrina won the men’s 70-74 time trial and individual pursuit before finishing second in the 70-and-over scratch race and the 70-and-over sprint.

The Americans also had four more multi-medal winners. Annette's husband, Kenny Williams (Kenmore, Wash./Slalom Consulting Racing) won the men’s 45-49 individual pursuit and points race before placing second in the Muratti Cup. James Host (Plainfield, Ill./Pact- DISH Network Cycling) recorded a pair of medals as he won the men’s 55-59 individual pursuit and finished second in the 55-59 points race. James Meidhof (Bethesda, Md./DC Velo Limited) added a silver in the men’s 35-39 scratch race and a bronze medal in that group’s individual pursuit. Keith Macbeth (Santa Cruz, Calif./San Jose Bicycle Club) struck gold in the men's 60-64 sprint and added a silver medal in the men’s 60-64 time trial.
