Americans earn 16 medals at World Cycling Tour Final

Trento, Italy (September 26, 2013) — The riders from the United States amassed 16 medals at the 2013 UCI World Cycling Tour Final in Trento, Italy. The event, which crowned world champions in time trial and road race, spanned Sept. 19-22. Ten of the 16 medals were gold while the contingent added three silver medals and three bronze medals to their collection.

The U.S. boasts six double medalists as Julie Cutts (Las Vegas, Nev./Velo Club LaGrange), Melinda Berge (Park City Utah), Lisa Magness (Bend, Ore.), Ann Marie Miller (New York, N.Y./CRCA-Eumaeus Asset Management-Fuoriclass), Marti Shea (Marblehead, Mass./Destination Cycling) and Brendan Sullivan (Atlanta, Ga./Century Road Club Assoc) each finished within the top three of their age group in the time trial and road race. Cutts, Miller, Shea and Sullivan each topped their fields in both races. Berge and Magness each collected a silver medal and a bronze medal.

The United States collected a pair of gold medals in the long (112-kilometer) road race. Sullivan won the men's 50-54 road race with a time of 3:42:44. Anne Perry (Draper, Utah/DNA Cycling p/b Plan7) topped the women's 40-44 field after finishing her race in 4:04:26.

American riders earned five medals in the short (60-kilometer) road race, including three golds and a pair of silver medals. Cutts won the women's 45-49 road race after finishing in 2:31:22.7. Shea completed the race in 2:29:38.3 to top the women's 50-54 field while Miller topped the women's 55-59 podium after crossing the line in 2:41:16.4. Magness placed second to Shea in the women's 50-54 road race to earn the silver medal after finishing the race in 2:36:59.2. Berge collected the silver medal in the women's 65-and-over road race after completing the race in 2:46:23.3.

The U.S. collected nine medals in the time trials, including five gold medals. Richard Feldman (Ketchum, Idaho/Durance-Colnago) won the men's 40-44 time trial with a time of 35:47.4. Sullivan topped the men's 50-54 field after completing his ride in 36:18.7.

Cutts bested the women's 45-49 field with a time of 41:00.9. Shea topped the women's 50-54 podium after finishing her ride in 42:39.6. Miller won the women's 55-59 time trial after stopping the clock at 45:41.6. The Americans earned the silver and bronze medals in the women's 40-44 contest as Molly Van Houweling (Berkeley, Calif./Metromint Cycling) registered a time of 41:52.3 and Amy Thornquist (Reno, Nev./DNA Cycling p/b Plan7) posted a time of 42:18.3. Magness collected the bronze medal in the women's 50-54 competition after posting a time of 43:27.6. Berge also earned a bronze medal in the women's 65-and-over time trial after finishing her ride in 57:38.3.
