Americans continue to put forth strong effort at 2013 UCI Juniors Track Worlds

Glasgow, Scotland (August 10, 2013) — Competition continued at the 2013 UCI Juniors Track World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, on Friday and Saturday with American riders taking to the velodrome in several events.
Raul Arias Jr. (East Palo Alto, Calif./San Jose Bicycle Club) started things off for Team USA on Friday, taking 12th in his qualifying heat in the points race. In the men’s one kilometer time trial, Michael Dessau (Boulder, Colo./Slipstream-Craddock Junior Development) placed 23rd with a time of 1:07.889 and Calan Farley’s (Pittstown, N.J./Chester County Cycling Foundation) time of 1:09.658 was good for 28th place.
Friday’s women’s individual pursuit saw Bailey Semian (Mertztown, Pa./Team TIBCO II) take 20th in a time of 2:37.462. Laurel Rathbun (Monument, Colo./Exergy TWENTY16) stopped the clock in 2:38.282, good for 22nd. The same day, Tara McCormick (Long Beach, Calif./Exergy TWENTY16), Nadia Latzgo (Fogelsville, Pa./Exergy TWENTY16) and Shannon Bhatia (San Jose, Calif./Team TIBCO II) raced the women’s sprint, though each was unable to advance beyond the 1/16 heats.
Today saw the conclusion of the men’s omnium, with Zach Carlson (Plano, Texas/Matrix Cycling Club) notching a 20th-place finish. His best showing was in the individual pursuit, where he placed ninth with a time of 3:30.326. Sarah Huang (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./ExergyTWENTY16) finished 13th in the final women’s points race standings. She didn’t score any points but did finish sixth in the final sprint.
Competition concludes on Sunday with the final rounds of the women’s omnium and the men’s sprint. The men will also compete in the madison while the women will contest the keirin, as well. Visit the UCI Juniors Track World Championships website for a full schedule.
