American trio takes bronze in team pursuit at Manchester World Cup
Manchester, GBR (February 18, 2011) – Americans Sarah Hammer (Temecula, Calif.), Dotsie Bausch (Irvine, Calif.), and Jennie Reed (Seattle, Wash.) joined forces on Team Ouch to win a bronze medal in the women’s team pursuit on opening day of the UCI Track World Cup finale in Manchester, Great Britain.
After posting the third fastest time in qualifying, the American trio faced the Netherlands in the bronze medal round, and Great Britain took the victory after beating out New Zealand in the gold medal final.
Also putting forth quite an effort in the women’s team pursuit were Kimberly Geist (Emmaus, Pa./Team Alliance Environmental), Cari Higgins (Boulder, Colo./Peanut Butter & Co TWENTY 12), and Kristin McGrath (Durango, Colo.). Riding for USA Cycling’s team in Manchester, the ladies clocked a 3:29.312 to place 11th.
In addition to the women’s team pursuit, Americans contested the women’s team sprint and men’s sprint on Friday. Elizabeth Reap-Carlson (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Classic Cycling Essentials) and Cristin Walker (Houston, Texas/Momentum Coaching Group) teamed up for 16th place in the women’s team sprint, while Jimmy Watkins (Bakersfield, Calif./Momentum Cycling) clocked a 10.566 in the qualifying round of the men’s sprint to be ranked 30th overall.
