Personal

Amanda Miller did not come from a traditional cycling background. Growing up on a grain farm in Iowa, Miller played basketball from third grade until she was a junior in high school. In trying to stay in shape during the basketball offseason, Miller needed a change from running the gravel roads near her house. She went for a bike ride and became enthralled with it. She bought a new bicycle, got a job at the local bicycle shop where she met some racers. The local racers invited her to join the group rides and eventually Miller started participating in local races. In 2005, Miller rode in her first race and was hooked. The sport became a passion and her results improved quickly. At the age of 20, Miller placed third in the 2006 National Criterium Championships among Cat 3/4 women.

In 2007, Miller moved to Fort Collins, Colo. to attend Colorado State University and increase the level of difficulty of her training rides. The higher difficulty paid off as Miller won the national championship in the short track at the 2008 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Cross-Country National Championships in West Dover, Vt. Later that year, Miller earned the silver medal as a member of the Rams cycling team in short track at the 2008 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships in Banner Elk, N.C., before placing second in the Division I women's race at the 2008 USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Championships in Kansas City, Mo.

After finding success in the professional ranks, Miller was named to the squad representing the United States of America at the 2010 UCI Road World Championships in Melbourne, Australia. Her stellar results carried over to the road as she earned two podium spots at the 2011 USA Cycling Elite, U23, Junior & Paralympic Road National Championships in Augusta, Ga. Miller placed third among the elite women contesting the time trial before securing the bronze medal in the road race. Her performance earned her a spot on the 2011 UCI Road World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, where she helped Theresa Cliff-Ryan place 18th in the road race.

Growing up, Miller earned varsity letters in basketball and track. She was selected as a member of the state track team as a 10th grader.

When she's not riding her bike, Miller enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also has a puppy to occupy her limited downtime. As a Colorado resident, Miller passes time hiking, camping, fly fishing, or just driving around enjoying nature's beauty.
