Gwangmyeong, Korea (August 8, 2014) —The 2014 UCI Juniors Track World Championships began Friday at the Gwangmyeong Speedom in Korea with Team USA fielding riders in the women's scratch race, women's team sprint and men's team sprint.

Danielle Mullis (Rochester, Mich./West Michigan Coast Riders) notched the best result of the day for the U.S. contingent with a seventh-place finish in the women's scratch race final. Denmark's Amalie Dideriksen took the gold medal ahead of France's Soline Lamboley and Australia's Josie Talbot.

Mullis also teamed up with Julia Sante (Queensbury, N.Y./Farm Team Cycling) in the women's team sprint competition on Friday. The duo placed eighth with a qualifying time of 49.404. The team from Germany took the title, followed by the squads from Russia and Korea.

In the men's team sprint, the American trio of Alex Horvet (West Hills, Calif./LUX-Specialized by Cynergy), James Mellen (Schnecksville, Pa./Sprinter's Edge Track Development Team) and Dominic Suozzi (San Pedro, Calif./Team Winded Development) finished 10th after clocking a time of 1:04.017 in the qualifying round. Russia claimed the men's gold medal with host Korea taking the silver and Poland earning the bronze.

Competition continues on Saturday with Mullis and Sante contesting the women's 500-meter time trial, Thorsten Askervold (Lake Stevens, Wash./HSP) competing in the men's scratch race, Chazmichael Morales (El Segundo, Calif.) taking to the track in the men's individual pursuit, and Suozzi and Mellen racing in the men's keirin.
