2013 UCI Juniors Track Worlds conclude in Glasgow
Glasgow, Scotland (August 11, 2013) — The 2013 UCI Juniors Track World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, finished up on Sunday with Americans competing in the women’s keirin and omnium.
During the morning session, Sarah Huang (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Exergy TWENTY16) and Tara McCormick (Long Beach, Calif./Exergy TWENTY16) both competed in the women’s keirin. In her round one heat, McCormick just missed advancing after finishing third. She was riding well in her repechage until an unfortunate crash knocked her out of contention. Huang was fifth in her first heat, but only moved up one position in her repechage to fourth and did not advance.
Bailey Semian (Mertztown, Pa./Team TIBCO II) had a strong ride in the scratch race portion of the women’s omnium, riding to fifth place. However, she finished 11th in each of the other rounds and concluded the omnium ranked 11th.
The American men were off on Sunday. James Mellen (Schnecksville, Pa./Sprinter's Edge Track Development Team), Calan Farley (Pittstown, N.J./Chester County Cycling Foundation) and Tyler Nothstein (Orefield, Pa./Chester County Cycling Foundation) competed in the qualifying round of the men’s sprint the day before, but did not advance to Sunday’s finals.
