The 2013 UCI World Elite Cyclo-cross Championships will be the first time the 60-year-old event has been held outside of Europe. The Elites are expected to draw 5,000 to 10,000 fans and riders to Louisville from North America and Europe to participate in an event like no other, a high-energy mix of hard racing and celebration.

"This is a huge moment for the sport of cyclo-cross in the United States. It's an opportunity for Louisville to really shine on the global stage and to show the world their hometown pride as they make sporting history," said Joan Hanscom, Louisville 2013 event director. "For the US athletes, this event presents an enormous opportunity, the chance to win a world championship on home turf for the first time."

Only a few Americans have ever won medals at the World Cyclo-cross Championships - and only one has won - Matthew Kelly in 1999 won the Junior Gold Medal in Poprad. Other medalists include Tim Johnson (bronze, 1999 U23); Katie Compton, Jonathan Page and Danny Summerhill (Silver medals ALL, 2007); Katie Compton (Bronze, 2009/10; Silver 2010-11).

"I'm really excited and looking forward to racing world championships in my own country.  Racing in front of a home crowd will be an amazing experience since Americans bring a level of enthusiasm to cross that you can't get in Europe.  This will be a special weekend of racing where spectators will see the best cross racers in the world put on a show and I'm happy to be part of that.  It's guaranteed to be a fun weekend in Louisville!" said eight-time and reigning US Cyclo-cross National Champion Compton of Team Trek Collective.

"I want to encourage everyone to come out to the world championships in Louisville! It's a chance to experience the exciting atmosphere that international cyclocross brings, with all of the biggest names in the sport. Come be part of the history as the United States becomes the first country outside of Europe to host the world championships. I look forward to racing for the USA on our home turf and I hope to see you everyone there." concluded USA Cycling Cyclo-cross National Champion Jeremy Powers of Team Rapha-Focus.

In addition to general admission tickets, single-day VIP tickets and VIP tables are available starting at $125.
